Martin BeirneChairman
Martin D. Beirne
Martin Beirne is a founding partner of Beirne, Maynard, & Parsons, L.L.P. He has extensive trial experience in complex business litigation, energy, franchise and antitrust. Mr. Beirne also provides advice and representation to corporations, corporate officials, and other individuals in investigations initiated by various government authorities as well as internal investigations on behalf of corporations. Corporate Legal Times named Mr. Beirne one of three "Top Drawer Litigators" in the United States. He has remained active in St. Mary's since his days as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the St. Mary's Law Journal. He was named the Law School's 2004 Distinguished Law Graduate. Mr. Beirne remains active in the Law Alumni Association. He currently serves as a member of the St. Mary's University Board of Trustees and is Vice-Chairman of the finance committee.

Paul R. Vahldiek, Jr.Vice Chairman
Paul R. Vahldiek, Jr.
Paul R. Vahldiek is a private practice attorney in Houston. He has also served as the chairman, president and CEO of The High Lonesome Ranch since 1995. Additionally, Mr. Vahldiek is the president of Deep Water Cay Holdings, Limited, the oldest bone fishing lodge in the northern hemisphere. Previously, he led Amene Investments, L.L.C. as president. Mr. Vahldiek earned his bachelor's degree from Trinity University and his law degree from St. Mary's University. In 2008, he was recognized by St. Mary's University with the Distinguished Law Graduate Award.

Peter HoseyPresident
Peter E. Hosey
Peter Hosey is a partner with Jackson Walker L.L.P. and has more than 30 years of experience representing clients in the energy and natural resources area. He received a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at El Paso in 1976 and is a 1979 graduate of St. Mary's University School of Law. He practices primarily in the areas of oil and gas, title and transactional matters, real estate law, business law, and international business law. He has served since 1998 on the Joint Editorial Board for the development of Title Examinations Standards established by the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law and Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Sections of the State Bar of Texas, which are published in the Texas Property Code. Mr. Hosey serves on the Council of the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. He is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association and has served as President and Treasurer of its Natural Resources Committee. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Hosey is also a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. He is a frequent lecturer and writer on oil, gas and land title issues. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at St. Mary's University School of Law, teaching Texas Land Titles.

Charles A. Beckham, Jr.
Charles Beckham is a partner with Haynes Boone in Houston. He has more than 25 years of experience helping a broad spectrum of clients with bankruptcy and insolvency problems. From 2005-2011, Mr. Beckham was recognized by the Chambers USA as one of the leading practitioners in Texas for bankruptcy. He has been acknowledged as one of the Best Lawyers in America Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights (Woodward/White, Inc., 20102011). Mr. Beckham has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for more than 10 years and was recognized as a Top 100 Texas Super Lawyer Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights, 2003-2010.

Dean Charles E. Cantú
Charles E. Cantú serves as the Dean and South Texas Professor of Law at St. Mary's University School of Law. Highly educated and respected, Dean Cantú earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, his law degree from St. Mary's University, and his masters of comparative law (M.C.L.) degree from Southern Methodist University. Dean Cantú also later earned his master of laws (LL.M.) degree from the University of Michigan. He was also a Fulbright Scholar to Bolivia. Dean Cantú has published numerous articles in law reviews, many of which relate to products liability. He also contributed a chapter to a leading Texas treatise, Texas Torts and Remedies. He writes in the areas of common law, statutory damages, products liability and Texas Deceptive Trade and Practices Act.

Joseph Casseb
Joseph Casseb has practiced law for more than 30 years from serving as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas to serving as a senior partner of Goode Casseb Jones Riklin Choate & Watson. He has also led mediation training with the Attorney Mediators Institute in Dallas in 1997. Mr. Casseb continues to be an active member of the State Bar of Texas as well as the San Antonio Bar Association. He has remained involved in St. Mary's University Law Alumni Association and was acknowledged as the 2006 Distinguished Law Graduate.Mr. Casseb has served on St. Mary's University Board of Trustees and St. Mary's University School of Law Foundation. He has been recognized by Texas Monthly Magazine as a "Super Lawyer" in ADR, 2008 - 2011.

Claude E. Ducloux
Claude Ducloux is a founding partner of Hill, Ducloux, Carnes & De La Garza. He is board certified in Civil Trial and Civil Appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Ducloux was selected as the recipient of the 2011 Gene Cavin Award for Excellence in Continuing Legal Education. Claude has served on countless CLE planning committees and is one of the State Bar's most popular speakers and authors. He has chaired numerous professional organizations, including the Texas Bar Foundation, the Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism, the Board of Legal Specialization, and the College of the State Bar of Texas. He has served on the editorial committee of the Texas Bar Journal, edited the Travis County Practice Handbook, and authored multiple professionalism videos, among many other accomplishments. Mr. Ducloux also has been named a Super Lawyer each year from 2004-2010. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and his law degree from St. Mary's University.

Jeffrey T. Embry
Jeff Embry formed Hossley Embry, L.L.P. in 2002 with a dedication to representing individuals and families. He has been recognized as a Texas Legal Rising Star 2003 - 2007 and as a Texas Super Lawyer 2008 - Present. Prior to founding Hossley Embry, L.L.P., Mr. Embry served as Head of the Products Liability Department at Windle Turley, P.C., the youngest attorney to ever hold that position in the firm's nearly 30 year history. He achieved record settlements and verdicts for clients involved in various products liability, aviation, and personal injury lawsuits. Mr. Embry earned his bachelor's degree from Baylor University and his law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law.

Arnulfo Gonzalez is a member of Arnulfo Gonzalez, Jr. Law Firm in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Gonzales specializes in personal injury as well as auto accidents, truck accidents, job-related injuries, wrongful death, product defects, railroad claims, and oil field accidents. Mr. Gonzalez serves Webb County as well as clients throughout Texas.He received both is bachelor's degree and law degree from St. Mary's University.

Asst. Dean Albert Hartman
Albert Hartman serves as the Assistant Dean of Alumni Relations and Development at St. Mary's University School of Law. Prior to joining St. Mary's University, he served as Vice President and Commercial Marketing Executive at Ticor Title Agency, having previously worked as a Commercial Marketing Executive with Stewart Title Co. Additionally, Asst. Dean Hartman was a staff attorney with Heard, Goggan, Blair & Williams in San Antonio. He also previously worked in the commercial title business with several leading title companies in San Antonio and served as a Juvenile Probation Officer with the Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department. He is active in his local community from the San Antonio Livestock Exposition to Boy Scouts of America.

Rev. John A. Leies, S.M.
Rev. John Leies, a Marianist priest, is past president, past academic vice-president, former Theology Department Chair, former Head of Campus Ministry, a tenured Professor of Theology and President Emeritus of St. Mary's University of San Antonio, where he has spent 37 continuous years. He has been named as an Outstanding Faculty Member of the School of Arts and Social Sciences and also of the Graduate School. Rev. Leies completed college studies at the University of Dayton. He went on for seminary studies at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, where he was ordained and where he completed a Doctorate in Theology.

Hon. Alma L. Lopez
The Honorable Alma Lopez served as Chief Justice, Fourth Court of Appeals from 2002-2008. She was the first Hispanic woman to serve as Chief Justice on the Fourth Court of Appeals. Previously, she was appointed in 1993 by Governor Ann Richards to fill an unexpired term as Justice of the Fourth Court of Appeals. She was elected to fill a six-year term (1995-2000) and was then re-elected (2001-2006). She also was appointed by Chief Justice Phil Hardberger to oversee appellate ADR. She earned her bachelor's degree and law degree from St. Mary's University.

Antonio Martinez
Antonio Martinez is a partner with Martinez, Barrera y Martinez in Brownsville, Texas. He is currently practicing general civil litigation around neural tube defects, toxic tort, class action litigation, diet pill litigation products liability and other serious personal injury and general negligence cases. Mr. Martinez earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and his law degree from St. Mary's University.

Anthony E. Pletcher
Tony Pletcher joined Watts Guerra Craft L.L.P. as a partner in 2006 and is the managing partner of the firm's office in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is an "AV" rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Pletcher was selected by his peers to be included in "Best Lawyers in America" in personal injury law (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) and recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer (2009, 2010, 2011).

Donato D. Ramos
Donato Ramos leads the Law Offices of Donato D. Ramos, P.L.L.C. with more than 37 years of legal practice in the South Texas brush country. Mr. Ramos is a Martindale Hubble AV rated attorney, representing large and complex cases. Mr. Ramos is a former Vice-Chairman of the Texas Board of Examiners, a former Vice-Chairman of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, a current member of the Board of Trustees of St. Mary's University, and was recently inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers whose membership is by invitation-only and limited to one percent of the total lawyers of any state. He earned both his bachelor's degree and his law degree from St. Mary's University.

Elizabeth Caples Rogers
Elizabeth Rogers is the Chief Privacy Officer at Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, where she directs and plans legal activities as well as interprets laws and regulations related to privacy. She promotes the protection of personally identifying information and confidential information. Ms. Rogers also keeps the agency leadership apprised of privacy trends and serves as a liaison to other government CPOs locally and nationally. She also manages periodic risk assessments and provides interpretations of current policies.She is the Immediate Past President at St. Mary's University School of Law Alumni Association and serves on the Member Board of Trustees there. Ms. Rogers is also a member of Texas Women Lawyers. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and her law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law.

Lisa Moore Turano
Lisa Moore Turano is Chairman and General Counsel with Providus. In 2010, she was named to the "Top 50 Fastest-Growing Women-Led Companies" list by the Wall Street Journal. In 1988, she founded Co-Counsel, the nation's largest legal staffing company, serving as Chairman until 1999. Ms. Moore Turano graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and St. Mary's School of Law and practiced commercial litigation for several years.

Rev. Rudy Vela, S.M
Rev. Rudy Vela, S.M., D.Min. is the Vice President for Mission and Identity and Assistant Professor of Theology at St. Mary's University. He was appointed to the University of Dayton Board of Trustees in 2009 and is serving as a member of the Mission and Identity and Academic Affairs committees. He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Catholic Theological Union in 2003, a master's degree in administration from the University of Notre Dame, a master of divinity degree from the University of Toronto, St. Michael's College, and a bachelor's degree in Spanish with a minor in music education from St. Mary's University. Rev. Vela is a Marianist priest with his doctoral concentration in "Cross-Cultural Ministries". He has been a teacher, lecturer, facilitator and pastor, as well as program director and faculty member at the Mexican American Cultural Center in San Antonio.
